6 weeks since I last blogged. I think that may be a record. Things have been crazy busy round here but it is finally half-term. Phew. I’ve barely touched any of my WIPs for months now and with all the craziness my frazzled brain has been fit for garter stitch only. I was all for knitting scarf after scarf but Lily came to my rescue with a nifty little variation. This is Kentmere.
It looks quite innocent there doesn’t it – all simple garter stitchy-ness. The twist comes at the end… quite literally. She certainly had fun trying to write up the pattern.
The pattern gives instructions for 2 versions – nice plain garter for therapeutic TV knitting and another version in a textured stitch pattern. I knit the garter sample of course and Lily did the patterned one.
Garter stitch version shown in Fyberspates Scrumptious in DK/Worsted in the Water colourway.
Next is a DK version shown in Juno Fibre Arts Sirius DK. You can’t tell from the photographs but this yarn has a sparkly thread running through it.

Issue 1 was out just last week and early signs show it’s been super well-recieved. I have a personal interest in this one as lots of the photography is mine – including the cover! I knit Wray a few months back with some Wollmeise Lace yarn. I entered it into our State Fair and it won 2nd place! Love the pattern! This scarf looks lovely too!

Oh gosh that is exactly what I’ve been looking to knit! I need a scarf I can wear at uni without dragging it around on the floor all the time by accident (quite often in sheep filled fields…) I love the yarns too!

Great pattern! I live in the US and searched for the newsstand app on the app store. It looks like it isn’t here in the us. I got zinio and scoop newsstand. Zinio has The Knitter but no free issue. Shoot!

Garter stitch is so soothing, yet so stunning in this cowl!
I love the look of this scarf – ideal for my discerning ‘baby’ nineteen year old daughter who is just about to write her final exams! She plans on studying fashion next year and would appreciate the simplicity of this pattern and the fact that her mum knitted it for her!

I LOVE this cowl. I’m a new knitter (all of 3 weeks) because it was suggested as therapy for broken fingers from a few months ago. I love this – for the ease of the garter stitch and the moving to more technique as my fingers/hands & eyes get better at this knitting thing.
I love this cowl and would love to make one!
Incidentally, I looked for the Newsstand app on my iPad and there are at least three apps with “newsstand” in the name and none that I could find with only that name…what app exactly is it that has the free issue of The Knitter?
Love that you can add any pattern you choose. I’m going to search for something that will fit the bill for it.

Gorgeous pattern. Perfect too as an accompaniment to the two person mittens on Ravelry (where you hold hands inside the mitten). You could wear it as a couple whilst canoodling and both be equally warm!

Love the cowls, and I’d love a chance of winning the pattern. Lily never ceases to amaze me with her creativity, I know you’re so proud of her. And you ,must be proud of yourself, that mag cover looks wonderful.

Oh my gosh, Lily you are a genius! I love the cowl and for people like me, it eliminates the frustration of trying to wrap it around your neck comfortably.
What a wonderful concept for a scarf. I quite like both. I bought the copy of The Knitter on the weekend and saw Lily’s pattern. I quite like that she has teen sizes in her patterns so I can knit them for my daughter!

Great cowl! A genius pattern.
Kentmere looks great and just the thing for my daughter (a year or so younger than Lily) who is at the garter stitch stage with her knitting but would like an interesting result. (Would it pair well with Urchin beret, I wonder?)
