A wet week in the Lakes means limited outdoor fun but lots of knitting time. You were all so encouraging about my first attempt at designing that I couldn’t wait to have another go. Broughton is a generously-sized asymmetrical wrap born from an afternoon playing around with short rows!
More garter stitch. Oh how I love garter stitch.
Much as I love knitting small 1 skein shawlettes, I rarely, if ever wear them. For me, the perfect shawl is generous in width but shallow in depth – lots of wrapping potential.
I know I’m not the only knitter with an abundance of sock yarn. Luxury single skeins get me every time. I also have a thing for combining 2 colours and can sit for ages poring over possible combinations. Loved knitting Ulmus for this reason.
This is actually the second version of Broughton - the first one being in a much bolder colour scheme. Will get that photographed and blogged as soon as possible. If all goes to plan the pattern for Broughton should be available to downoad on Rav very soon.
Bowland is almost ready for release too so keep an eye on Ravelry if you expressed an interest in it earlier.
Now what next?
***eta – for those who have taken a shine to those shorts. They’re River Island and available here.

I love this! I agree with you about short shawls. I love knitting them, but wearing them rarely happens.
Now, can we talk about your shorts? Those are adorable!
Aaaaaand she’s off from the starting gate, with two patterns under her belt there is no stopping her now!!!

Another beautiful design Amanda!
Adore Lily’s shorts too!
It looks lovely. I think garter stitch shawls must be in the thing at the moment!
I knit several shawlettes years ago and never wear them either. I love shawls that you can wrap around you and love them even more when they’re striped. And garter stitch? The icing on the cake. So cozy.
Real nice! Love the stripes!
Hmmm…
to be honest, it’s a nice one, but it looks a lot like a version of Color Affection.
It’s gorgeous!
lovely modern take on a shawl. I hope the pattern appears very soon
Love those colors together! Way to go Amanda!!
Another vote for more width and less depth in a shawl. I find them much easier to wear. Can’t wait for this pattern to be released.
Gorgeous Amanda, and it looks so enjoyable to knit. Garter stitch is where my head is this summer!
Love it. Love the colours too. I think garter stitch must be having a moment, because my next planned knit is in it too.
It’s gorgeous! Love it. I agree about the little shawlettes – this sort of thing is much more useful.
On another topic…I’m about to start my first Wray. Just knit a test swatch sitting in the airport.
