Most Bright Patterned Coat You Ever Did See

Brunette girl looking over shoulder at camera.

Happy Monday and here’s to all the #MotivationMonday hype because the sun is shining and life is good.  I’ve just returned from 2 trips last week and can’t quite figure out whether they’ve given me a boost of energy or I’m just past the point of tired now, but either way I’ll roll with it.  So to complement my rather bright and perky mood today, here’s an extremely bright and perky outfit in good old ‘here’s what I wore’ style.  Except it’s actually ‘here’s what I wore to traipse round town 2 Wednesdays ago’ but near enough.  I liked my outfit and felt it needed documenting at some point or other!

Like I mentioned on Instagram, my brother made the mistake of writing on his personal statement years ago that he ‘helps his sister with blog photography to broaden his horizons’. So naturally I make the most of that and decide when his horizons are looking a little narrow.  Usually coincides with me having a good outfit day or needing a hand with a blog shot, funnily enough.  Thanks bro!

Until a couple of weeks ago I felt like I’d fallen into a neutral rut (to match the bleak winteryness obvs), and suddenly decided I absolutely must start wearing obnoxiously bright things right away.  Because LOOK BLUE SKY and it’s basically summer already.  Short of a technicoloured dreamcoat they don’t come much more obnoxiously bright than this one!  Despite owning more than enough clothes myself, my mum’s wardrobe is never safe from a raid, and this jacket just matched my mood exactly.  It’s from Boden years ago and reliably receives compliments every time either of us wears it (this wasn’t the first time I’ve stolen it… I have a habit of doing that).  This time the compliment was from a lady in the Primark changing rooms whilst I was asking to borrow a tape measure.  My bag-that-will-fit-my-laptop hunting mission was still proving rather fruitless at that point, but the compliment was nice!

I’m actually slightly bemused as to how in my coming up 4 years (!!!) of blogging this coat hasn’t made an appearance, but better late than never.  Cliche as it sounds I feel like new seasons give me a renewed enthusiasm for clothes and styling outfits together – not necessarily to follow trends, but to enjoy outfits that reflect my mood rather than just get dressed for the sake of clothing myself.  And further than just fashion, sometimes all it takes is a bout of bright weather and some fresh air to get you feeling buzzed about life again, don’t you think?  I don’t suffer with SAD but my oh my does it perk me up to see promising blue sky.  Even if it’s often deceptive and I end up freezing 2 minutes after leaving the house.  Love you British Summertime and your misleading ways.  Now hurry up and become actual barbecue weather already.

coat: Boden | jeans: River Island | bag: River Island | jumper: Topshop | shoes: Matalan (Been wearing trainers outside the gym more and more lately because I’m bored of buses and prefer to walk a few miles when it’s not chucking it down.  Slowly learning how not to be the idiot who wears uncomfortable shoes to walk miles in.  Sensible choices.  If that’s not adulting I don’t know what is).
