time no object gifts I’d like to give

socks-again

It’s no secret over here that I like making things.  My handmade things are some of my most treasured items ever – I have 5 items made by 3 different generations on my bed alone.  I like my blankets and cushions, ok?  Anyway, much as I like owning a million and one handmade items, I really love giving them too.  I’ve made quite a few pressies over the years, but nowhere near as many as I’d like.  That old time thing (or lack of) always gets in the way. Sooooo, even though there ain’t no way I’ll have a chance to make any of these, here’s a collection of dream items I’d love to make and dish out to my friends and fam.  Now you know what you would have for Christmas if I’d locked myself away in isolation for the last 6 months.  Enjoy. 🙂

mittens

Personalised knits.  Not chunky garish ones with peoples’ names in the knitted equivalent of comic sans, but maybe hats with subtle initials on the lining or something.  I think it’s cute to make items that you can 100% guarantee couldn’t be bought in a shop.  Seems most worthwhile that way.

doodle

Doodled Christmas cards.  Now this is one I have done before (and done a half decent job of, if I do say so myself) but I think it’d be really sweet to draw a different doodle for each person.  This photo’s a Johanna Basford (of colouring book fame) doodle I found on Pinterest – my style would be quite different to her’s and I’d make each card personalised but love this as inspiration!

Mittens.  Specifically, these ‘cold as f*ck’ ones.  Can think of a few people who would appreciate those, me included.  So true.

thigh-high-socks

Socks.   Lots of handknitted socks.  That’s probably the most grandma-like item I could ever suggest in my ripe old age, but they’re just SO COSY.  I’m still wearing the pairs we made years ago.  NOTHING beats them for cosiness.  Handknit lace thigh highs would be amazinggg too.  I’m sure they’d go down well!

stitch1

Textile-y art pieces.  I’m not so bad on the sewing machine, might as well put it to use more.  It’s nice to make things that you know will be used lots, but nice to make ‘art’ for art’s sake too.  I’m not calling myself an artist, don’t worry haha.  It’s just nice to have things to decorate your walls and whatnot rather than just stuff to wear. Loved this one on Pinterest. 😀

crochet-lace-bra

Crochet bras.  Not the most wintery but hear me out. I’ve already actually made a few crochet bikini tops, bralets and cropped tops for friends, but I think the really fine-crocheted ones would be more useful.  And they so prettyyyy.  Commercial ones never seem to fit quite right, so I’d love to try my hand at some intricate lace loveliness.  Wouldn’t be a quick job to get it just right, but worth it!

Apologies for the missed day of Blogmas btw – I’ve had a couple of those days where my brain seems to malfunction and I just can’t get my act together.  I’m working on it. 🙂

You definitely do! They’re not the quickest of projects but the finished items are worth it. 🙂
Thank you! I’m never sure if people like these kind of posts, so it means a lot!

Eeeep! Yes! As a knitter, I highly approve! I love knitting for birthday presents! I’ve seen those ‘cold as f*ck’ mittens on Ravelry! I want to knit them but I don’t live in a cold climate unfortunately. Maybe ‘hot as f*ck?’ Haha

You’re the kind of friend I need in my life since I am the only friend in squad who makes handmade gifts and everyone just buys me jewellery or books on my birthdays, not fair I know.
