Bought an iPad so yes I will now be spending silly

Bought an iPad so yes I will now be spending silly amounts of time faffing around with digital drawing. Lotssss to learn but I’m having lots of fun playing around! Especially with finding tools to represent knitted textures but in an artsy kind of way.

#ThePinkOneCardigan has been out for 2 years today (time flies) so I thought I’d try drawing it because why not. I intended to draw it in a different colour to visualise the bright cardigan in a neutral, but then one drawing took me absolutely ages so that’ll have to do for now because I need to go make dinner 😂

The comfiest of sweaters 💕 I’m making a conscious effort this year to design mostly casual, relaxed knits - partly because that’s what my wardrobe needs, and partly because I’m hoping to move my designs in that direction slightly.

A while ago I posted a YouTube video chatting about what makes a bestselling knitting pattern, and the comments have been really interesting! Lots of food for thought in there. Quite a few people (both in those comments and in other conversations) have told me that they like my designs, but they’re too young & fitted for them to knit…

Of course I 100% support that anyone should wear whatever they like, regardless of size / age, but I understand that people feel comfortable in different things. You should wear what makes you feel good! It’s interesting / tricky for me though, because over half my self-published designs are actually loose / oversized, with nothing overtly ‘young’ about them 🤔 Shows how much first impressions and associations count for! So my question is, do you tend to associate particular designers with specific silhouettes, or follow your favourites for their general style? Do you prefer to see designers create a mix of items or choose 1 style and stick to it?

PS. I’m thinking of making a lighter, sleeveless version of this one for spring summer…

Do I have a to-do list a mile long today? Yes. Did I spend far too long trying how many ways I can tie a knitted scarf as a top? Also yes. The sun is shining and it feels like Spring and I got a bit carried away 😅 Shall wear it today as a scarf, over a tshirt, under a jacket, like a normal person. Most of these wraps would be mighty impractical but I might give no3 a whirl on a beach holiday sometime!

I designed this pattern during the first lockdown and the short row direction changes still bring me a lot of joy 🌈

Finally caught up on grading & pattern writing and finished this one today 👍 I'm full of ideas and plans at the moment and am going to try to keep up the pace! Always happens that I have no FOs for a while, then a whole bunch of designs on the go at the same time, which always coincides with having loads of plans and trips and life stuff. All or nothing, always 😂 Such is self-employed life. I've learnt to trust the cycle these days and just ride the wave. Very excited for the next few months ❤️

TRUST THE PROCESS 💫 Sometimes knitted tops look like a tiny, messy, scrap of a thing that wouldn't fit a toddler during the process... and then you add the neckband / buttonband / edgings and all is transformed. Most definitely the case with this one! When the double knit edging was added around the armhole, it finally started to look exactly like the design that's been in my head for months 🙌🏻

#BoulevardBag bag no2 complete✌️ The 2nd of many I'm sure! I knit this one ridiculously densely so it's super structured. Shall be on its way to @breigenwijs as a belated birthday gift soon - I intended to finish it before our trip to Copenhagen but that didn't happen. Best laid plans and all that 🙈

The bag pattern will be released on 8th April, the same day as the #CalmDownCardigan, so there will be a little discount for purchasing both together 🧶

Did a lot of knitting in coffee shops this weekend

Did a lot of knitting in coffee shops this weekend and very much enjoyed it ☕ I'll happily knit anywhere and everywhere (as my friends will attest, my knitting always comes along to the pub) and I honestly couldn't give one if people think I'm odd. But it was quite the novelty to not be the only person with needles, and to be somewhere that knitting is so mainstream! Our trip was just for funsies but I kind of treated it as market research too, very interesting to observe a knitting culture quite different to here in the UK...
