Textiles GCSE is finally done and dusted, woo!  Thought I might share some of my design ideas I drew as part of my coursework.  Not exactly loads of continuity between them, but each is loosely Art Deco inspired (loosely being the key word there).  Bold and graphic was my aim in some way, shape, or form, and looking back at my ideas I think I may have to try making this blue dress on the left someday.  Would be cute in a Mary Katrantzou Topshop dress kinda way, don’t you think?  Those SS12 dresses stick in my mind.  They were so pretty!

I don’t even like that green one. Not sure what I was thinking there – it’d look crappy on and be a swine to make!

Andddd the final design!  You might remember I posted pictures of and info about the finished pieces here.  Knitwear had to be in there somewhere (stick with what I’m best at y’know) and even I’m not daft enough to try knitting an entire ballgown, yet.  Also, I may have only actually drawn these pictures after finishing the whole thing. 😉  When starting it I had a pretty good idea of what I was doing, but made up the finer details as I went along.  Let’s just hope the coursework moderator isn’t a blog reader!

So what do you think… any of these worth taking further than the sketchbook?

You should try the navy/orange floor length gown! May be a bit ambitious but I love the design! Also had some knitting ideas for you;-) xxx

Great that your textiles course is done. Best of luck on the other exams.

I love the outfit you created! Of the others, it is hard to tell which to make. The blue and grey would make a very wearable and pretty dress, but I think the orange and navy floor length has possibilities. You could even knit the top. Or make the skirt separately, as i know how hard it is to sew onto a knit thing.

It’s so good to know that I have some subjects in the bag now! I’ve never actually tried attaching a knitted and a sewn thing together – maybe that should be next on the list!
