how can I stay productive? | an (unfocused) post, on focus

Questions people ask me are some of my favourite blogging prompts.  Thanks guys, for giving me inspiration!  Interesting to find out what people want to know.  ‘How I stay focused’ came up in conversation the other day, and to be honest, I wasn’t exactly sure what to answer.  My thoughts aren’t very focused you see, ironically.  It’ll always feel a little strange when people ask me things like this, because quite honestly – I’m all over the place from one day to the next.  Me, focused?  I guess it’s always easy to be far more critical of yourself than others.  Sure, I’ll have productive times like this one when I get a million and one things done in a day, but I have plenty others where I’m easily distracted and nothing goes as I’d like, too.  I flick between the two so quickly.

Staying focused is sometimes easier said that done – I’m talking blog-wise here btw, I’ll save the rest for another day.  Hands down one of the hardest parts of blogging is feeling like you need to focus but don’t know what on, for me anyway.  ‘What the hell should I write today?!?’ is a question I frequently ask myself when I 100% want to write something and am unsure where to begin.  Or a hundred suggestions of different things to write, edit, change, join in… can become overwhelming.  Not overwhelming in a negative way, but in the sense that you’ll never be 100% satisfied.  There’s no blogging rulebook: what makes a successful blog for one person doesn’t necessarily make it so for the next.

Deciding which area to focus on, which in my case, is almost impossible.  I want to write about my opinions on topics and share places and experiences as much as I still want to ramble about clothes too, although I do feel like fashion blogging has evolved recently.  It’s moved on a little from the ‘here’s my #ootd, here’s where to buy it‘ into ‘here are some clothes I wore and here are the thoughts that were in my head‘, at least for me and many I read.  Which direction to take my blog genuinely is something I’ve pondered lots lately, seeing as I’ll have more time to dedicate to it in a few short months.  Finding a niche just isn’t going to ever happen for me, in blogging or life, tbh.  As long as it remains honest, that’s all that matters really.  I might not write about the rubbish days or who I’m with at all times, but I won’t put up any false pretences.  Just wouldn’t feel right.  So I’ll happily admit that sometimes ‘focusing’ isn’t always easy.  Sticking to it regardless, is.  I’ve never even consider quitting, not once!

That was a really rubbish and long-winded answer to a simple question, wasn’t it?  I don’t have a routine, I don’t have the long-term plan that others swear by, I just have the ultimate goal that I want to try as many things as possible and make something of this.  I think that’s enough motivation.

Now to mention the outfit, just briefly. 🙂  Believe it or not these shoes are a fold up pair – one of those designed to tuck in your bag and save the day when the heels pain becomes unbearable – but I’ve worn them as regular daytime shoes too.  What with leopard print being neutral and that.  I’ve worn heels out more lately and had the inevitable achiness that comes with it (in my knees too – weird?) so I’m pretty sure these are going to get plenty of use.  Other than that, all black once again because you just can’t go wrong.

great post hunni,i find it hard to stay focused at all and am all over the place! Your writing style is absolutely awesome and also your OOTD’s are so inspirational. Whatever you are doing is perfect as when you write, you are writing from your head and heart rather than like some scripted bloggers who do tend to churn out the same lines all the time when doing their posts. You are yourself which makes you so amazing xx
