wool and the gang

Talk about getting ahead of myself with this one!  Wool And The Gang very kindly offered me a knit kit from their A/W collection; a girl isn’t going to let such things like the weather get between her and cute accessories, is she?  Makes a nice change to be ready and (sadly) waiting for colder days to come.  The kit arrived yesterday afternoon and I had the ‘Lil’ Muffler’ finished by the evening. 10 and 15mm needles felt like rolling pins and lamp posts respectively and gave me a mild arm workout, but that’s instant gratification projects for ya.

Of course I’m now eyeing up a bunch more pieces from the WATG site – couldn’t find a brand more suited to my style than one that combines hand knits and ‘fashion-y’ shapes.  I do like my fiddly little fine knits – and they’re a lot easier on the wrists – but the jumpers and cardis on the website might just tempt me to the chunky side.

For a quirky design I think I’ll actually get quite a lot of use out of this one.  I reckon it’ll come in very handy at a freezing cold bus stop in the mornings.  How would you style a muffler?

Sitting down to whip this one up was pretty relaxing after 2 days at dance summer school, which I loved every minute of but oh em gee it was tiring.  Our routine was to songs from the Great Gatsby soundtrack (best movie soundtrack evaaaa) and was a Charleston/street mix-up.  We’ll be performing it as part of our show next March, which will be my final show before I leave and it makes me sad just thinking about it!  I’ve been at the same dance school with the same teachers since I was a 3 year old in the baby class, and now I’m one of the big girls with no-one older to copy when I forget what I’m doing. Gulp.

Anddddd I’m off to meet Alice tomorrow!  Blogger besties that haven’t actually met yet so I’m way excited. 😀

Nice, bulky knit muff! I too wonder, when bulky sweaters or accessories are in fashion, why I do not already have ten of these. As a knitter it should be easy to whip one off, right? It is surprisingly hard to knit with anything thicker than 7mm pins though!

It must have been a fun couple of days of dance school. I felt a little bit of bittersweet nostalgia too, when you mentioned that you will be in your last dance show ever. My daughter is only 8 years old and things are really just starting with ballet. She has been with the same ballet school since she was 4, and we have been looking up to the older girls and soloists all these times. I even had a role a couple of Christmases ago as Mother Ginger in the Nutcracker. But one day, maybe too quickly, she will be one of the big girls too! My younger girl is only 3 1/2 and starting ballet in a month. So a ways to go before we say goodbye. I am glad you had a good time of it.

Thanks Max! I do find it much easier to knit with finer needles, so it’s all about the balance between quicker knits and it being easier to handle I guess!
I bet you were great in the Nutcracker! I kind of wish I was back in your daughter’s position with all the older years to look forward to, but at the same time it’s nice to finally be in the big dances! You make sure they make plenty of memories to hold on to!
